Waltons New School of Music’s Bluegrass Slow Jams are open to anyone who wants to experience playing and singing bluegrass and folk standards at a moderate tempo and in a supportive, educational and fun jam setting. The primary emphasis is on participants playing and hearing the basic chord changes of well-known songs. We will also work on arranging material, and participants will learn how to begin and end a song, how to play solos and how to communicate with the other musicians. Singing is also encouraged, whether or not you are playing an instrument!
Participants will build up a repertoire of bluegrass, folk, gospel and country blues songs and learn how accessible and enjoyable playing with other musicians can be, while supervised by an experienced teacher.
Bluegrass Slow Jams take place on Friday evenings 6.30 – 8 pm at the school, and both New School and external students/players are welcome. The jams are supervised by a New School bluegrass teacher, and songs are provided in advance, to facilitate group playing.
Currently-enrolled students at the New School are asked to contribute €3 at each session, and external students/players are asked to contribute €6, to help cover supervisor fees and expenses.
