Celebrate National Music Day with a magical musical journey! In this workshop of children's folk songs, musical games and percussion activities from around the world, we’ll travel to Ghana, Brazil, China, Greece, Hungary, Germany, the USA and Australia. We’ll sing songs from these countries, as well as hear and learn about the fiddle, pandeiro, berimbau, ocarina, mbira and other folk instruments.
Each child should be accompanied by an adult. There will be a maximum of ten children (plus parent) in the class, so pre-booking is strongly advised. Younger/older siblings will not be permitted in the class. Please arrive five minutes before the class starts.
Gráinne Foster, Teacher
Gráinne Foster has taught pre-instrumental music and piano to students of all ages, from music beginners to diploma level, and she thoroughly enjoys sharing her love of music with others. Although she initially studied science and received a BA degree with first class honours in Natural Science from Trinity College Dublin, Gráinne also completed her Associate and Licentiate piano teaching diplomas with the RIAM, and her passion for composition led her to complete a Masters degree in Music and Media Technologies at Trinity College Dublin in 2007. She remains active as a composer and performer with the contemporary jazz band Electrical Fault, plays with various country and rock groups and works as a piano accompanist throughout Dublin. She is dedicated to contributing to the community through her volunteer work with St. Vincent's Centre, where she co-runs a group music session every week for severely intellectually disabled people. Drawing on this musically diverse background and wide-ranging experience of teaching and performing in her lessons and classes, Gráinne's main aim as a teacher is to encourage the student to enjoy making music on any level.
