Run by Peña Flamenca El Indalo, a Dublin-based non-profit organisation with a reputation for bringing the finest flamenco professionals to Ireland to teach and perform, and again supported by Waltons New School of Music, Dublin Flamenco Festival has placed Ireland on the map for flamenco aficionados and professionals and has officially earned its place alongside the more established festivals worldwide.
Featuring some of today's most influential flamenco artists, from modern and edgy to traditional, the festival pursues its mission to represent authentic flamenco and break away from the clichés and stereotypes so often associated with flamenco.
There are three great performances taking place at the Smock Alley Theatre in Temple Bar on 19, 24 and 27 October, with an art exhibition, masterclasses, workshops, conferences and talks all taking place in various venues around Dublin city centre.
Guitar, cajón and clapping masterclasses taking place at the New School include:
Guitar Masterclasses with Juan Antonio Suárez, 'Cano'
Cano is one of the most exciting young guitarists on the flamenco scene. He has composed for and accompanied the biggest flamenco stars of dance and song and appears in the cast of the latest Carlos Saura movie, Flamenco, Flamenco. He is also the guitarist behind Flamenco, a live CD and DVD with singer Diana Navarro, awarded a Gold Disc in Spain.
