New School Ensemble Prize
PRIZE
€300. The prize amount, which is to be applied only towards lessons at Waltons New School of Music during the 2013-2014 school year and is not transferable, will be divided evenly among members of the ensemble.
The prize will be awarded for the best ensemble performance in the competition as well as for progress over the 2012-2013 school year, as determined by New School faculty adjudicators.
ELIGIBILITY
Instrumental or vocal ensembles made up of two or more students, who will have been enrolled at the New School for at least 18 consecutive weeks by the end of our Third Term (22 June 2013). Prize winners may not enter the same competition again. Candidates, selected from teacher nominations in May, will be asked to perform at a judged competition in June. Winners are expected to perform at the New School’s end-of-year concert.
New School Songwriting/Composition Prize
PRIZE
€300. The prize amount is to be applied only towards lessons or courses at Waltons New School of Music during the 2013-2014 school year and is not transferable.
The prize will be awarded for the most creative original composition/song for solo instrument or voice or small group/ensemble, performed by the composer/songwriter alone or with group. Melodic instruments/singers may be accompanied by guitar, piano/keyboard or backing track. Compositions/songs must be original and may be in any style (classical, traditional, jazz, roots or popular) and should be no more than seven minutes long. Written music is not necessary, but if available it should be supplied for the New School faculty adjudicators. The prize will go to the songwriter/composer only.
