'Perhaps every group of musicians should have written above them "This Group is a Musical Instrument, treat it as such."'
– Brian Eno
Ensemble playing is an essential – though often neglected – part of any musical education. The New School has a number of ensembles open to both New School and external music students. Ensemble members, under the direction of dedicated coaches, experience the unique pleasures of group music-making through weekly rehearsals and regular performances of a varied repertoire. We aim not only to make good music, rehearsed to public performance standard, but to have a lot of fun in doing so!
Entry into an ensemble generally requires a brief, informal audition, which can be arranged through the New School office. Students can enter an ensemble at any point in the year (subject to a place being available). Tuition fees for late-enrolling students are pro-rated and depend on the number of classes remaining.
