Free Big Bang Festival Workshops at the school!

(05 Jul 2012)

Give it a Bang!

On Thursday nights in July, two renowned percussionists - Brian Fleming and Robbie Harris - will be giving free drumming workshops at the school for all ages and levels of players, from complete beginners up. The workshops are to prepare participants for the annual Big Bang Festival of Rhythm, which takes place from 24 to 29 July in Dublin. The Festival comprises a series of concerts and workshops celebrating rhythm in its many forms. The climactic event of the Festival is an afternoon of acts at the St. Stephen's Green bandstand, culminating in a finale with 100 drummers, of which you will be one if you can make it along to any two of these four workshops! Drums are supplied.

This year's rhythm is based on a West African djembe and dundun rhythm called 'Konden' and will be played with an original song, 'Ololufe', by the Dublin-based Irish and Nigerian band Tig Linn. Join us at the school on these Thursdays: 5, 12, 19 and 26 July. All workshops start at 7 pm.
