Trying to decide on the perfect gift for someone who loves music? New School Gift Certificates – which can cover entire courses or terms of lessons, as well as single Intensive Lessons – and Gift Tokens – which may be used for any instrument or course taught at the New School, or for instruments, sheet music and accessories at Waltons Music shops – offer a world of possibilities.
What to Give?
The New School offers tuition in the widest range of instruments and styles (classical, traditional, jazz, popular, world music) of any music school in Ireland, as well as a variety of courses and workshops. We have something to suit virtually anyone with an interest in music.
'But I haven't played in years!' Hundreds of mature students, starting instruments or returning to them after years (sometimes decades) away, currently study at the New School. Go to our Lesson & Course Catalogue for more information.
'I'd love to try something completely different.' Beginners can join one of our popular ten-week Introducing... courses, which provide foundation tuition in seven popular instruments – bodhrán, fiddle, guitar (for adults, teens or children), harmonica, piano/keyboard (for adults or children), tin whistle and violin (for adults or children) – as well as Latin percussion and singing (for adults). Go to Group Courses for Beginners for more information.
'I'd like to explore a different style of music.' For those with some previous experience, we offer a range of special courses and workshops in everything from musical theatre to electric blues guitar. Go to Intermediate-Advanced Courses & Workshops for more information.
'I want to give her something a little more lasting than the latest must-have toy.' We offer both private (one-to-one) lessons and a range of group courses for children, including Music for Me (our lively pre-instrumental programme for children ages 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 and 5-6), Introducing Piano/Keyboard for Children, Introducing Violin for Children and Introducing Guitar for Children. Go to For Children for more information.
'I've played/sung by ear all my life, but I wish I knew how to read music.' Those new to music reading will find it surprisingly easy with Music Fundamentals I and II, our ten-week theory and musicianship courses. Sight Singing Made Easy, another ten-week course, combines essential music theory (treble and bass clefs, notes and note values, time signatures, frequently used terms and signs) with a practical approach to sight singing. Go to Music Theory & Sight Singing for more information.
'Did you know that the entire CD was recorded in his living room?' The New School's unique Music Technology programme consists of intensive five-week courses and private lessons designed to provide hands-on introductions to everything from sequencing to sampling, microphones to multi-track recording.
