Introducing Guitar for Teens Want to learn acoustic guitar through the music you like? Designed especially for teen beginners, this 10-week course takes a practical, enjoyable approach to acoustic guitar tuition. The style is hands-on, contemporary and seriously fun. Skills are developed using chord and riff examples from today’s top groups. You will also gain such essential musical knowledge as song structure, tab notation, scales, rhythm and metre, intervals, chord shapes and strum patterns, and techniques such as muting and string bending. By the end of the course you should have an impressive grasp of guitar fundamentals and a solid understanding of how songs are put together.

Participating students will need to have an acoustic guitar to bring to class and to practice at home. If you do not already have an instrument for this course, please note that Waltons music shops offer suitable instruments, some of which are available on payment plans, for students at the New School. Go to Recommended Instruments for more information.

Introducing Guitar for Teens is one of our group courses for beginners. Private, partner, group and intensive guitar lessons are also available for students at all levels, from beginner to advanced. Go to Departments & Faculty - Guitar & Bass for more information.
