'An excellent introduction to Latin percussion instruments, rhythms and techniques. Eddie is an incredible player and inspiring teacher!'
– A. Dermody
For over 50 years the influence of Latin rhythms and Latin percussion has been spreading from Latin and South America, and is now felt throughout the world. Today, Latin dances (rumba, cha cha, etc.), Latin instruments and Latin rhythms are everywhere – and music from jazz to classical to pop has experienced the Latin impact. Introducing Latin Percussion is designed to introduce beginners (no previous musical experience is required) to the basic functions of Latin percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, timbales, guiro and shekere – and to a variety of traditional rhythms and styles (son, merengue, rumba, etc.). Students learn the rudiments of many different percussion instruments, all the while absorbing Latin rhythm and Latin style through regular ensemble playing. All instruments are provided for use in the course.
