Ages 4-5
Part of the New School's Music for Me pre-instrumental programme, Musical Adventures follows on from Making Music but can also be a great starting point for a child with no previous classroom music experience. Classes focus on musical storytelling and movement, rhythmic and melodic notation, pitch matching and improvisation on the instruments. Children will also explore the music of different cultures, as well as classical and jazz. Visiting New School teachers will demonstrate different instruments and instrument groups (strings, wind, keyboard, guitar, traditional, etc.) throughout each semester.

Gráinne Foster, Teacher
Gráinne Foster has taught pre-instrumental music and piano to students of all ages, from music beginners to diploma level, and she thoroughly enjoys sharing her love of music with others. Although she initially studied science and received a BA degree with first class honours in Natural Science from Trinity College Dublin, Gráinne also completed her Associate and Licentiate piano teaching diplomas with the RIAM, and her passion for composition led her to complete a Masters degree in Music and Media Technologies at Trinity College Dublin in 2007. She remains active as a composer and performer with the contemporary jazz band Electrical Fault, plays with various country and rock groups and works as a piano accompanist throughout Dublin. She is dedicated to contributing to the community through her volunteer work with St. Vincent's Centre, where she co-runs a group music session every week for severely intellectually disabled people. Drawing on this musically diverse background and wide-ranging experience of teaching and performing in her lessons and classes, Gráinne's main aim as a teacher is to encourage the student to enjoy making music on any level.
