Musical Theatre WorkshopHave you ever dreamed of being a Broadway or West End star? Or would you just like to be able to audition with confidence for the local/community musical? The Musical Theatre Workshop is designed for anyone interested in performing in musicals and is an excellent opportunity to develop your vocal abilities, song/audition repertoire and dramatic skills. The workshop will include:

  • Vocal techniques and warm-ups to help you produce a stronger, healthier sound
  • Choosing and preparing the right song for your voice type
  • Defining your character and ‘character-based’ singing
  • Solo and ensemble singing
  • Dramatisation of scenes
  • Managing stage fright

The workshop will also include extensive preparation with an accompanist, and the group will showcase some of the material they have worked on in a final performance, open to the public. Participants are encouraged to invite family and friends along!

Although this workshop is an introduction to musical theatre, it is not intended for voice beginners. (Go to Introducing Singing for Adults for information on our beginners course.) Participants in the Musical Theatre Workshop should have some previous experience singing in choirs or musicals or have taken at least a term of private or group singing lessons. Please wear loose clothing and bring along a song from any musical with which you are familiar and that you would like to work on as a ‘solo’ piece.

Sinéad is available to meet with interested students to discuss the course and what it entails, and to answer any questions you may have, on Monday, September 27, 7-8 pm.

The Musical Theatre Workshop is one of our group courses. Private, partner, group and intensive lessons in singing for musical theatre are also available. See Departments & Faculty - Voice (Singing) for more information.
