Announcing four great new group courses for the 2012-2013 school year!
Classical Vocal Workshop
In this ten-week course we will explore such classical vocal forms as art song, oratorio and opera, as well as their unique challenges, focusing on language, historical context and suitable vocal approach, together with performance techniques. The workshop will also pay close attention to posture, presentation, clarity of diction, communication, stage technique, repertoire selection and dramatic skills.
Introducing Samba Drumming
In this ten-week course for beginners, we will explore the magic of traditional street samba performed in Brazil’s annual carnaval (carnival) parades, with sections of different percussion instruments weaving an irresistible tapestry of sound in the traditional batería or percussion band.
Introducing World Drumming
In this ten-week course for beginners, we will learn how to play various world percussion instruments, including djembes, congas, bongos, dumbeks and assorted frame drums; explore the commonalities and differences of African, Brazilian, Latin and Middle-Eastern drumming and rhythms; and discover some of their applications in contemporary music.
Jazz Blues Ensemble Workshop
This ten-week entry-level ensemble workshop is both a follow-up to the Jazz Improvisation Basics course (students can enrol for both courses at a reduced fee) and an excellent stand-alone introduction to blues and jazz ensemble playing and improvisation for those new to the forms.
