Waltons  New School of Music offers tuition in the widest range of instruments, subjects and genres (classical, traditional, jazz, popular, world music) of any music school in Ireland, as well as a variety of group courses and workshops for beginner, intermediate and advanced students, and Waltons World Masters Series concerts. We have something to suit almost anyone with an interest in music!

Two gift options are available:

  • Gift Certificates Individually printed with the recipient’s name, gift certificates can cover entire courses, a term or more of lessons, or single Intensive Lessons.
  • Gift Cards Purchased for a particular value (minimum €25), electronic gift cards can be used by the recipient towards all lessons, courses and workshops taught at Waltons New School of Music, as well as towards instruments, accessories and books from Waltons Music.

Some Gift Ideas

We have listed some gift ideas – by price range – for you below. There are, of course, many more lessons, courses and workshops offered by the New School.

€50 • One-Hour Intensive Lesson

Our one-off Intensive Lessons are available for almost all instruments (including voice/singing) and subjects taught at the school. They can be an end in themselves and are also a great way for people to ‘try out’ tuition and instruments.

€60 • One-Hour Intensive Lesson for Two People

A shared Intensive Lesson can be a great experience for two! We recommend singing, bodhrán or tin whistle for those without any previous musical experience.

€70 • Two Tickets for Tigran Hamasyan + Special Guests at the NCH

The New School’s World Masters Series is bringing the world-renowned pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan, along with special guests, to the National Concert Hall on Tuesday, 22 January 2019. Just 30 years old, Tigran has amassed an extraordinary body of work and has been lauded by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Brad Mehldau. This unique event will blend Tigran’s solo piano with the great Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and an Irish choir. Support by acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter and harpist Brona McVittie.

Currently-enrolled New School students (and parents of students) can get 20% discounts on tickets for this concert.

€80 • Two Top-Price Tickets for Lizz Wright at the NCH

The New School’s World Masters Series is bringing the acclaimed American vocalist Lizz Wright and her group to the National Concert Hall on Thursday, 21 March 2019. Lizz Wright is a truly extraordinary singer, with a musical palette that encompasses gospel, folk, jazz, pop, blues and spirituals. Every one of Wright’s six albums to date has been critically acclaimed, from her debut album Salt (Verve Records), released when she was just 23, to her most recent, Grace (Concord Records). Through this body of work and her unforgettable live performances, Wright has cemented her place as one of the most captivating vocalists of the century.

€170 • 12-Week Term of our Sing Your Heart Out Choir or Sing & Swing Jazz Vocal Ensemble

Led by the renowned choral director Cathy McEvoy, our Sing Your Heart Out Choir is just the ticket for banishing the winter blues! Participants have the opportunity to sing some great songs with others, to find and improve their voices, to spend an hour and a half every week ‘singing their hearts out’ and making new friends in the process, and to perform in public for fun and entertainment.

For all those who love to sing and swing in group harmony, our new Sing & Swing Vocal Ensemble is led by the renowned jazz singer, conductor and teacher Melanie O’Reilly, who has many years’ experience teaching jazz and conducting jazz choirs. Material includes songs from the Great American Songbook as well as repertoire ranging from blues to bebop to ballads and beyond.

€200 • 10-Week ’Introducing’ Instrumental or Singing Course for Beginners

Our ‘Introducing’ courses are designed for absolute beginners (no previous musical experience required) and provide excellent foundation tuition in a range of popular instruments/subjects.

€200 • 10-Week Blues or Trad Guitar Course

Our ‘Basics’ guitar courses are designed for guitar students/players with some previous experience and introduce specialised styles and techniques.

€200 • 10-Week Introduction to Jazz Piano

Taking place in the New School’s Digital Piano Lab and taught by Johnny Taylor, one of the finest jazz pianists and teachers in Ireland, Jazz Piano Basics is a hands-on course designed to give classical piano students of at least intermediate level (Grade 5 or equivalent) a solid foundation in jazz piano. For the last two classes, students have the opportunity to apply their skills by working with a professional jazz bassist and jazz drummer.

€200 • 6-Week Songwriting Workshop

Taught by the acclaimed songwriter and musician Kieran McEvoy, our Songwriting Workshop will help you to develop your creative ideas – in any musical style – and turn them into finished songs.

€220 • 7-Week Art & Craft of Songwriting Workshop

Taught by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Melanie O’Reilly, our Art & Craft of Songwriting workshop takes participants through the entire songwriting process, integrating the craft’s many skills into a seamless artistic whole.

€290 • 10-Week Vocal Workshops

For the singer in your life, our acclaimed Vocal Workshops are excellent 10-week (90 minutes per week) courses for singers with some previous experience. Each workshop also includes a final performance in which participants showcase the material they have worked on before an audience of friends, family and fellow students.

€290 • 10-Week Introduction to Music Technology

Taking place in the New School’s Music Technology Lab, Introducing Music Technology is a comprehensive, inexpensive, practical and hands-on course 10-week course (90 minutes per week) designed to teach absolute beginners how a PC and home studio technology can be used to record and produce virtually anything at home.

€331 • 13-Week Term of Private (One-to-One) Music Lessons

The New School offers private music lessons six days a week and in the widest range of instruments, subjects and genres of an of any music in Ireland. The fee above is for 30-minute lessons in our 13-week Second Term, which runs from January to April, but 45- and 60-minute lessons are also available. €408 • 13-Week Term of Partner Lessons for Two

Most people are very busy with their day-to-day lives, and there isn’t a lot of time put aside for each other. Shared Partner Lessons are an enjoyable and satisfying way to explore music together. The fee above is for 30-minute partner lessons for our 13-week Second Term, but 45- and 60-minute partner lessons are also available.
