Enrolment at the New School

How do I enrol myself / my child in Waltons New School of Music?

First, you will need to decide what type of tuition you would like to enrol for, and the fee. Group course and ensemble fees are listed on the relevant web pages; private, partner and small group lesson fees can be accessed through the left menu. You should then complete the relevant enrolment or booking form (also in the left menu). If you are enrolling for private, partner or small group lessons, we contact you after we receive the form to discuss your lesson day/time choices and to process your payment. If you are enrolling for a group course or ensemble, please phone the school office as soon as possible on (01) 478 1884 to arrange payment and confirm your enrolment. Full payment of the course fee is required to confirm a group course enrolment, and we are not able to hold places on courses provisionally.

Can I choose the day and time of my / my child's lessons or course?

For private, partner and small group lessons, prospective students are asked for their day/time preferences on the enrolment form. We will do our best to suit these preferences, subject to teacher and timetable availability. If we are unable to do so, you will be contacted with alternative days/times available, and if we are unable to offer you a suitable day/time, no tuition fees will be taken. Group courses take place at set days/times; if more than one class is offered, please choose the day/time that you prefer.

Can I enrol at any time?

Yes. Although enrolment before the start of term is strongly recommended to guarantee a place on our timetable, we do offer the option of late enrolment. Tuition fees for late-enrolling students are pro-rated and depend on the number of lessons remaining in the year or term.

Can I enrol for more than one instrument/subject?

Yes, and a number of our students do. We also offer 10% discounts for 30-minute private lessons in a second instrument or subject, and more substantial discounts for Music Fundamentals, Sight Singing Made Easy and our ensembles (Flute, Jazz and Sing Your Heart Out Choir) for students currently enrolled for lessons at the school. However, you should keep in mind the amount of time required for practice or study each week an addition to your tuition.

Do I have to re-enrol every term or year?

If you are a year-enrolled student, you are guaranteed your place on our timetable for the entire year. Term-enrolled students are sent links to re-enrolment forms two to three weeks before the end of each term. If you wish to continue your or your child’s lessons, we ask you to complete the form and return it to us, along with the tuition fee, to arrive no later than one week before the end of term, in order to reserve your place on our timetable. For the new school year, we require that all students – those re-enrolling as well as those new to the school – fully complete a new enrolment form. Enrolment cannot be confirmed and students cannot be scheduled until we receive completed enrolment forms and applicable tuition fees.

How can I pay for my / my child’s tuition?

We accept full tuition fee payments and payment plan deposits by cash, cheque, credit/debit card or bank transfer. If paying by bank transfer, please do so well in advance so that the payment will arrive in our bank before your / your child’s tuition is due to begin. Also, be sure to identify clearly who is making the transfer, and let us know that you have done so. Our bank details for electronic transfers are:

We accept payment plan instalments by credit/debit card or post-dated cheques (both provided when enrolling) only.

Will the tuition fees go up next year?

It is unlikely that they will. The New School’s tuition fees for private, partner and small group lessons, as well as all group courses, have remained the same since 2007.

I'd like to start or continue tuition here but can't afford to. What can I do?

You can apply for tuition assistance for lesson and course fees based on financial need. Although tuition assistance is limited, every effort will be made to assist those students who, because of financial circumstances, would otherwise be unable to study at the New School. The range of tuition assistance awards will be between 20% and 40% of the total anticipated tuition fees for those who qualify.
